Three die in fishing boat fire
Three people have died aboard a boat which caught fire in Fraserburgh harbour, Aberdeenshire.

Up to 40 firefighters from four stations battled the blaze on fishing boat Vision II which broke out around 1.30am at the town's Balaclava Quay.

The vessel was docked in the harbour undergoing a refit by new owners who had changed its name from Amethyst.

It is thought the three fatalities were foreign crew members who may have been sleeping on the boat.

David Rout, a spokesman for the Grampian Fire and Rescue Service, said: "Fire crews encountered an extremely demanding and hazardous situation.

"They were subject to intense fire and heat and there were conditions on the vessel which hampered the operation.

"Our search and rescue teams located three fatalities on board the vessel."
